UKNudeScenes Preview Of 2012

Some of 2011's nude scenes are known about but not yet online, including full frontals from Juno Temple in Killer Joe and Emma Williams in First Night. We've had screen grabs of Carey Mulligan full frontal in Shame and Jessica Brown-Findlay topless in Albatross. We've seen Honeysuckle Weeks topless in a trailer for The Wicker Tree which comes out in the UK in January. All of these should go online over the next few months and hopefully better quality clips of Belinda Stewart-Wilson topless in All That Way For Love and Keira Knightley topless in A Dangerous Method will be there as well. As 2011 comes to an end, it's time to look at the prospects for British actress nudity in 2012.

Stag Night Of The Dead is out on DVD on January 9th, Lily Brown, Jemma Lewis and Eva Gray are the most likely for nudity. W.E., with an Andrea Riseborough full frontal scene, is out in cinemas in the UK on January 20th. Bel Ami, with possibilities for nudity from Natalia Tena, Kristin Scott Thomas and Holliday Grainger, is due out on March 2nd. Christine Bottomley is topless in Strawberry Fields which comes out in April, no news about if Anna Madeley has nudity in it. Pusher, with Agyeness Deyn playing a stripper, is out in the spring or summer.

The Other Side Of Sleep, with Antonia Campbell-Hughes topless, has been doing the festivals. Junkhearts, with sex scenes featuring Romala Garai, had a London Film Festival showing. Truth Or Dare, starring Jennie Jacques, was cleared by the BBFC as a video release but isn't on any schedules I can find. No news on wider, DVD or other releases for them yet but they should show up somewhere during the year.

American TV should be where it's at for nudity from British actresses again. In early January, Camilla Luddington makes her Californication debut. T&A have been promised in an interview. The pilot of HBO's Luck, including Kerry Condon, was previewed in December, the series is on from the end of January. Springtime will bring the return of The Borgias and Game Of Thrones. We have to hope that Holliday Grainger will give us more in The Borgias although the first series was quite coy overall. Game Of Thrones will probably rely on Esme Bianco and Sibel Kekilli for nudity along with extras, Emilia Clarke may not have any more nudity in the second series. Oona Chaplin may be the most likely new main cast member for nudity.

In the summer, True Blood will be back with possible nudity for Lucy Griffiths. HBO have the new Aaron Sorkin series which is now called The Newsroom, it's due on air around the same time that True Blood is back, Emily Mortimer flies the British flag in its cast. World Without End, the sequel to The Pillars Of The Earth, should be on Starz around the summertime. If it's faithful to the book, Charlotte Riley, Sarah Beck Mather and maybe Caroline Boulton are the Brits who are most likely to show something. Parade's End, with Rebecca Hall and Australian Adelaide Clemens, is due in the autumn and the adaptation of Labyrinth might be on by the end of the year. Labyrinth may have nudity from Katie McGrath and Jessica Brown-Findlay but the American showing is on SyFy so they'll have to have a nudity free version which will probably get the first showing. If there's nudity, it'll have to wait for international showings or DVD. The third series of Strike Back is due on Cinemax (and Sky One) late in the year, Cinemax also have Nemesis with Melissa George and Morven Christie, which was announced recently and will also be shown on BBC1.

The first British TV prospect in 2012 is Public Enemies, starring Anna Friel, on BBC1 in the first week of January. Joanna Vanderham may show something in Above Suspicion and Shameless is back on January 9th, it's been the only British series to have nudity in every series for the last few years but the only regular actresses who is willing to do nudity left is Rebecca Atkinson. Angeline Ball and Kari Corbett have joined the cast and Amy Beth Hayes is guesting for a few episodes. The BBC have a two part adaptation of Sebastian Faulks's novel Birdsong but the only likely female nudity will be from French actress Clemence Poesy. Also in January, Public Enemies stars Anna Friel and may be a good prospect, We'll Take Manhattan stars Karen Gillan and has a small chance of nudity, about the same chance as series 6 of Skins (January 23rd) does.

The long awaited return of Lip Service is on BBC3 in the spring. The first series contained nudity from Ruta Gedmintas, Fiona Button, Laura Fraser, Heather Peace and Natasha O'Keeffe. All of them are back and Alana Hood, Anna Skellern, Neive McIntosh and Sinead Keenan are also in the series 2 cast. BBC2's big drama for the spring is White Heat, starring Claire Foy, MyAnna Buring and Jessica Gunning. Bedlam is back on Sky Living, Lacey Turner and Gemma Chan joining Charlotte Salt in the cast. BBC1 has Inside Men with Kierston Wareing and Leila Mimmack and Prisoners' Wives with Emma Rigby, Pippa Haywood, Polly Walker and Natalie Gavin.

The two series called Love Life are due. From the BBC series, we already know that the Billie Piper/Kaya Scodelario lesbian storyline will not have any sex scenes. The other cast members include Vicky McClure, Jane Horrocks, Lacey Turner, Jaime Winstone, Jenny Agutter, Gemma Chan and Jo Woodcock. The ITV1 series stars Andrea Lowe and Sophie Thompson.

Later in the year, Janet Montgomery, Joanna Vanderham, Angel Coulby and Wunmi Mosaku are among the cast of Stephen Poliakoff's Dancing On The Edge. Misfits will have some new cast members who won't do nudity but it's had a nude scene per series so far so may have another next year. This Is England '90 may keep its nudity quota going and Fresh Meat is due back for a second series but its nudity prospects are low.

  1. On Anna Friel's upcoming scenes in "Public Enemies", it was announced back in October that there were some objections:

"In BBC1’s Public Enemies the babe, 35, plays a probation worker and will be seen bedding a convicted killer for forbidden romps.
But union officials have already been forced to ask the BBC to axe some sex scenes to keep the drama authentic.
And other red-hot shots are understood to have been left on the editing floor because they were deemed too raunchy for TV.
In one planned scene Friel’s character was to have sex in a car with the killer but it was cut before filming because probation officials were appalled."

    So the question is....

Did they cut just the one sex scene and tone it down a bit but leave some good sex scenes in? Or did they completely rid the entire 3-part series of sex scenes? I kind of doubt that from the way it sounds, otherwise the writers and producers would likely have been very angry. Also, if they didn't film that particular car sex scene (which sucks because it was probably going to be hot as hell) then perhaps they filmed a still steamy but less explicit one.

  2. Can I also just mention that although not a drama, Channel 4 is showing 'My Daughter is a Teenage Nudist' on Thursday 12th January at 10 pm. A documentary about young people getting involved in nudist college parties and nude protests. I was involveda little with the making of this and full nudity is featured throughout, according to the makers.
